Questions

Are the names saved anywhere?

Only in this browser, on this device. Nothing is sent to our server, and names never go into the page address.

How many names can the wheel hold?

Up to 1,000. Full names show as long as they fit, then first name and last initial, then first names, with initials only as a last resort. With a very big list the slices get too thin to label, so the picked slice lifts out under the pointer and the full name appears in the result card.

Can I show it on the projector?

Yes. Press Present for a full-screen view with a big wheel and a big name. Space spins, and Esc goes back.

Can I pick more than one name at a time?

Yes. Set Selection size to anything up to 5 and the wheel shuffles everyone into groups of that size, each group in its own colour. The groups stay the same from spin to spin, so you can pick which group goes next; press Shuffle groups for new ones. Wherever the pointer stops, that whole group is picked. Every group gets the same share of the wheel, so when the names don’t split evenly and a group comes out one smaller, its people still have exactly the same chance.

Is it really random?

Yes, and nothing is decided ahead of time. Each spin gets a random push, and wherever the wheel comes to rest is the pick. The pegs and pointer really slow it down, which is why it sometimes bounces back off a peg at the last moment. We simulate it over hundreds of thousands of spins to make sure every name is equally likely.
